about

Vetri is a short political poem I wrote when the shootout incident at Thoothukkudi (Tamil Nadu, India) happened. The song is an attempt to keep us reminded of all those incidents happened (and are still happening) in India which raises the very relevant question, "are we still a democracy?"

lyrics

Lyrics:

Kondre Pogalaam
(You can kill anyone)
Inge Neethi Nyayam Edhuvumilla
(There is no justice, no judiciary here)
Protest Niruthalaam
(Let's stop protesting)
Inge Kaaval Arasaangam Kanivadhilla
(No police, no government will hear us)
Enna Venaalum Pannalaam
(You can do anything)
Suttu Veezhthinaalum Sattam Thaan
(Even if you shoot anyone, it's part of the law)
Corporatesin Aatchi Vandha Piragu Naattil
(Ever since the Corporates started ruling our country)
Jananaayagathin Maranam Thaan
(Democracy has been dying)

Idharkku Per Vetri
(This is what they call Victory)
Nilam Kadal Malai Idharkku Mel Vetri
(Victory over land, sea and the mountains)
